CONCEPT
The Ibarzaharra Business Park represents one of the most significant industrial regeneration operations carried out in the Left Bank of the Bilbao metropolitan area, historically characterised by intensive mining and heavy industrial activity.
The project was developed through a collaboration between SEPES (Spanish national land development agency), the Bizkaia Provincial Council, and the municipalities of Barakaldo and Valle de Trápaga-Trapagaran, with the objective of transforming former mining and industrial land into a modern logistics and industrial activity hub.
Located in a strategic position between the A-8 motorway, the Bilbao Port corridor and the metropolitan transport network, the development sought to create new opportunities for economic activity in a territory strongly affected by the decline of traditional heavy industry.
The intervention involved extensive land re-profiling, environmental remediation and large-scale urbanisation works, enabling the creation of a new industrial platform adapted to contemporary logistics and industrial requirements. The resulting business park accommodates industrial, logistics and tertiary activities, providing large plots, high-capacity infrastructures and direct connections to the regional and international transport network.
Beyond its physical development, the project forms part of the broader territorial transformation strategy of the Bilbao metropolitan Left Bank, contributing to the transition from a heavy-industry economy towards a diversified economic structure based on logistics, advanced industry and services.
