CONCEPT
The Energy Intelligence Center (EIC) is a strategic infrastructure aimed at strengthening the Basque Country’s position as a European hub for energy innovation, industrial research and technological development. Located in the Ezkerraldea–Meatzaldea Technology Park in Abanto-Zierbena, the facility acts as a key anchor project for the economic and technological regeneration of the Left Bank of Bizkaia.
The project is based on a preliminary architectural proposal developed by IDOM, later reviewed and adapted to meet the operational and strategic requirements defined by Azpiegiturak and the Basque Government. The development forms part of a broader initiative to consolidate the Left Bank Technology Park, attracting advanced energy companies, research centres and industrial innovation initiatives.
The complex hosts the headquarters of the Energy Intelligence Center, the administrative headquarters of the Ezkerraldea–Meatzaldea Technology Park, and laboratory and workspace facilities for companies operating in the energy sector. The programme is organised into three main components:
- Headquarters building, housing offices, meeting areas and conference facilities.
- Research and testing building, including advanced laboratories and the Full Scale testing area, an industrial-scale space for validating new energy technologies.
- Shared infrastructure and logistics areas, including parking and service facilities supporting the operation of the campus.
More than a single building, EIC functions as a collaborative innovation platform, bringing together companies, research institutions and public actors to accelerate the development of new energy technologies and support the transition towards a more sustainable energy system.
