Living Lab H2 Bh2c Basque Hydrogen Corridor 1

CONCEPT

The Living Lab H2 is a specialised research and testing infrastructure developed within the Energy Intelligence Center (EIC) campus in Abanto-Zierbena, forming part of the broader Basque Hydrogen Corridor (BH2C) initiative.

BH2C was launched in 2021 with the objective of creating a comprehensive hydrogen ecosystem in the Basque Country, accelerating the decarbonisation of the energy, industrial, mobility and residential sectors. The initiative is spearheaded by Petronor and Repsol, and currently brings together dozens of projects and more than 70 participating organisations, including public institutions, research centres and industrial companies.

Within this framework, the Living Lab H2 provides advanced laboratory and experimental facilities dedicated to hydrogen technologies, enabling research, testing and validation of solutions across the hydrogen value chain. The infrastructure supports experimentation related to production, storage, distribution and industrial applications of hydrogen, serving as a collaborative platform where companies, research institutions and public actors can develop and test innovative technologies.

The project is closely aligned with the strategic commitment of Repsol and Petronor to lead the energy transition, with the Basque Country positioned as a key hub for hydrogen innovation and a driver for the development of a low-carbon industrial economy.
